BLU & SBCUSD PARTNER FOR A SUCCESSFUL JOB SHADOW DAY

On February 21, 2025, BLU Educational Foundation partnered with the San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) hosted a transformative Job Shadow Day. This initiative provided students from Indian Springs High School with firsthand exposure to careers in information technology (IT) and law enforcement, helping them make informed decisions about their futures.

IMMERSIVE CAREER EXPLORATION

The Job Shadow Day was designed to give students real-world experience in STEM and

social justice careers. Throughout the day, students engaged in immersive learning experiences tailored to their interests:

Technology Track: Students shadowed IT professionals and explored network

security, system management, and technical support at SBCUSD’s Smart Center.

They observed firsthand the cutting-edge projects that keep the district’s digital infrastructure running smoothly.

Law Enforcement Track: Students spent time with the School Police Department,

gaining insight into campus safety, conflict resolution, and emergency response. A

highlight of the day was using the MILO simulator, an interactive training tool that

allowed students to experience real-life policing scenarios.

ENGAGING ACTIVITIES AND STUDENT FEEDBACK

Students particularly enjoyed touring the campus police station and interacting with the

MILO simulator. They also found the IT department’s projects fascinating and were actively engaged during BLU’s career-focused activities.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Job Shadow Day was a resounding success, providing students with invaluable career exposure and mentorship. Moving forward, BLU aims to expand the number of participating departments and incorporate more hands-on activities to enhance student engagement. By continuing to create opportunities like this, BLU is helping shape the future of young professionals in STEM and social justice fields.
